Signs Your SD Card Is Failing
An SD card stores data on NAND flash with a tiny controller managing the file system. Unlike a hard drive, there are no moving parts to make noise. The failure is silent until your camera displays an error. We see these problems from photographers, CCTV installers, and drone pilots across Mumbai, Bengaluru, Delhi NCR, and Chennai every week.
Camera Says "Card Error"
Your Canon, Sony, or Nikon displays "card not recognized" or "cannot read card." The gold contact pads may be corroded, the controller IC has died, or the file system table is corrupt. We clean the contacts, test controller response, and if needed, perform chip-off NAND extraction to pull every recoverable image.
Formatted in Camera
You pressed "Format" in the camera menu thinking the photos were already copied. In-camera formatting on most cameras performs a quick format that only clears the FAT32/exFAT allocation table. The actual image data remains on the NAND pages until overwritten by new shots. We scan the raw NAND sectors for JPEG (FF D8) and RAW file headers and rebuild the directory structure.
Deleted Photos or Videos
Pressed delete on the camera or cleared the card on a laptop? The file entries are removed from the directory, but the image data sits in the NAND pages. Every new photo or video you record overwrites those pages. Power off the camera, remove the card, and lock the write-protect switch immediately.
Snapped or Bent Card
microSD card bent in a phone slot, or full-size SD snapped when removing from a laptop? The NAND die is a 12mm silicon chip embedded in the plastic. If that chip is intact, we desolder it under a microscope and read it with a NAND programmer. We have recovered wedding shoots from cards snapped clean in half.
Asks to Format
Camera says "card error" or "format card"? Don't format it, we can recover the files as they are.
Corrupted Video Files
Video files play for a few seconds then freeze, show green blocks, or won't open at all. This happens when recording stops mid-write (battery dies, card pulled out, drone crash). The MP4 or MOV container is missing its moov atom (the file index). We rebuild the video container by parsing the raw mdat data and reconstructing frame-by-frame playback.
CCTV Footage Missing
Your DVR or NVR overwrote the footage you need, or the microSD card in a CCTV camera stopped recording. Surveillance-grade cards have specific wear patterns from continuous 24/7 writing. We image the card sector-by-sector and recover overwritten H.264/H.265 video fragments that the DVR marked as deleted but didn't physically erase.
Fake Capacity Card
Bought a "256GB" microSD for ₹300 from a street vendor or online deal? Counterfeit cards are rampant in Indian markets. The card reports 256GB to the OS but actually has 8GB or 16GB of NAND. Once you exceed the real capacity, new data silently overwrites old data. We image the actual physical NAND and recover whatever was not overwritten.
SD Card Recovery for India
Wedding shoots, product photography, drone real estate footage, CCTV evidence for police complaints, dashcam clips for insurance claims. SD cards carry data that has commercial value, legal weight, or personal significance that no price tag can capture. We approach every card with that understanding.
Photo & Video Recovery
We recover every image and video format produced by cameras sold in India. Canon CR2/CR3, Sony ARW, Nikon NEF, Fujifilm RAF, DJI DNG for RAW photos. MP4, MOV, MXF, AVCHD for video. We also handle proprietary CCTV formats from Hikvision, CP Plus, and Dahua DVRs. Our file-carving engine scans raw NAND dumps for file headers and rebuilds complete images even when the file system is destroyed.
NAND Chip-Off Recovery
When a microSD or SD card is physically broken, we remove the NAND die using hot-air reflow at controlled temperature and read it with a dedicated programmer. We maintain XOR pattern databases for Phison, Alcor, and Silicon Motion controllers used in SanDisk, Samsung, and Strontium cards sold across India.
Client Confidentiality
We understand that a wedding photographer's SD card contains images of private family events. We sign NDAs, store cards in a locked vault with case IDs, and provide a certificate of data destruction after delivery. We comply with DPDP Act requirements for handling personal data and CERT-In security guidelines.
No Data, No Fee
We inspect your SD card at no charge and send a written quote within 24 hours. The quote includes the exact cost in INR, the estimated timeline, and the number of recoverable files. You approve before we start. If we recover nothing, you owe us nothing.

Common questions
These are the questions wedding photographers, CCTV installers, and drone pilots across India ask us most.
Yes. In-camera formatting on Canon, Sony, Nikon, and Fujifilm cameras performs a quick format that only clears the FAT32/exFAT file allocation table. The actual image data (JPEG, RAW, MP4) remains on the NAND pages until overwritten by new shots. We scan the raw sectors for file headers: JPEG files start with FF D8, Canon CR2 starts with 49 49 2A 00, Sony ARW starts with a TIFF header. We rebuild the directory tree and recover the original folder structure. Success rate for cards with no new data written after format: over 97%.
Deleted photo recovery (no physical damage) takes 12 to 24 hours. Formatted card recovery takes 24 to 48 hours because we must scan the entire NAND for file headers. Physically damaged cards requiring chip-off desoldering take 3 to 5 business days. If you have a client delivery deadline or a court date requiring CCTV footage, tell us and we will prioritize your case.
Yes, if the silicon die inside the plastic package is intact. An SD card's NAND chip is a 12mm x 16mm die embedded in epoxy. When the card snaps, the plastic breaks but the silicon often survives. We carefully remove the epoxy under a microscope, desolder the die, and read it with a NAND programmer. We have recovered complete wedding albums from cards that were stepped on, sat on, and run over by a car.
Yes, stop immediately and remove the card. Every new photo writes 5MB to 50MB of data to NAND pages that may contain your deleted images. On a 32GB card, recording just 10 minutes of 4K video can overwrite thousands of deleted photos. Power off the camera, slide the write-protect switch to lock, and place the card in a protective case. The less the card is used after data loss, the more we can recover.
